Yeah, the whole primary thing is kind of a drag, the economy sucks, and everybody is over the war. However this piece that popped up over at CBS News is pretty interesting. I think there is far too much coverage about the “lies” that led us into what has become a tragedy of a war, and not enough on how this war was seemingly necessary due to “perceived misinformation”. This article which highlights moments from an upcoming 60 minutes interview with Saddam’s interrogator sheds some light on the other side of this wars beginnings.

George Piro, FBI

“For him, it was critical that he was seen as still the strong, defiant Saddam. He thought that [faking having the weapons] would prevent the Iranians from reinvading Iraq.”

I think we can all agree this war should end, and we should continue to work towards a lasting peace (if that is even a possibility), but maybe things like this will show us that the real truth with everything that has gotten us here is in a grey in-between, where lies and errors co-exist with truths and getting it right. Just alone, it is interesting to hear how concerned Saddam was with the possibility of Iran invading, and maybe this will reinforce the idea that they are a country worthy of caution.
