Pretty amazing story about a teacher in the greater San Diego region who graduated High School, got an athletic scholarship to, and graduated from, college, became a teacher and taught High School for 17 years; all without being able to read, write or spell.

I decided to behave myself and do what it took. I started cheating by turning in other peoples’ paper, dated the valedictorian, and ran around with college prep kids.”
Some might call this a failure of our educational systems for this man to be allowed to go through and teach children while being illiterate; I call this a failure of our educational systems for allowing someone who clearly could apply himself (granted by unjustful means) to “success” no matter what. A lot of times those who struggle with these sort of things wind up down a much darker path so I think it should be celebrated that a guy who struggled, who had to cheat to make it, wound up figuring out a way he could make a huge impact on youth and prevent this from happening to other young persons.
